Why We Chose This Product
- L-histidine is an essential amino acid. It is found in meat, fish, nuts and seeds.
- L-histidine helps form natural moisturising factors in the skin, which add hydration to the skin.
- L-histidine is the main component of a structural protein called Filaggrin. Filaggrin helps form the skin's barrier. Gene mutations in the Filaggrin gene are the most common genetic risk factor for eczema. Inflammation from eczema also reduce the amount of Filaggrin in the skin.
- Giving L-histidine to skin in a laboratory outside the body increases the amount of Filaggrin and the overall strength of the skin's barrier.
- Two small studies showed once daily L-histidine supplements improved eczema severity over 4-12 weeks. This improvement was similar to a mid-potency steroid cream. There were no side effects of treatment. Larger studies would be useful and to analyse the long term effects beyond 12 weeks of treatment.
Directions
Adults and children over 12 years old: x4 tablets (4000mg) taken once a day.
