Eczema affects millions of people in the UK, causing more than itch. It interferes with sleep, work and confidence. At Eczema Clinic, we focus on identifying the root causes of your eczema for lasting relief. Our holistic approach combines environmental assessments and education with your medical treatments to stop ongoing cycles of eczema flares.
Most people rely on eczema advice from friends, social media, their pharmacist or GP. They often get conflicting or misleading advice and end up using expensive over-the-counter treatments that don't work properly. Good eczema care needs a personalised approach and detailed education about how to use your treatments.
An eczema dermatologist in the UK has the knowledge and experience to provide an accurate diagnosis and personalised therapies. They can tell you which subtype of eczema you have and formulate a plan. Eczema dermatologists have access to more advanced treatments that cannot be found at your local pharmacy or GP surgery. They stay up to date with current research to offer the latest therapies.
Whilst GPs manage most cases of mild eczema, moderate-to-severe eczema needs consultant-level expertise to prevent long term impacts on your skin and psychological health.
Specialists use clinical examination and targeted questions to identify your specific eczema subtype and associated conditions. Eczema syubtypes include atopic eczema , contact eczema, dyshidrotic eczema and asteatotic eczema. This approach allows precise and effective treatments. Specialist eczema dermatologists can recommend investigations and prescribe targeted treatments, such as tablet based therapies. Continuous support from an eczema dermatologist helps you learn effective methods to manage and prevent eczema flares.
Anyone with eczema can access a specialist. Consider an appointment if you are still getting flares despite treatment from your GP or pharmacist. People with recurrent infections, lost of sleep or reduced school attendance should think about an appointment earlier.
Dr Hughes, your eczema specialist in the UK reviews your symptoms, asks detailed questions, examines your skin and discusses triggers. Tests may follow, such as allergy testing if needed. You receive a clear, personalised skin care plan and education on how to manage flares.
