Why We Chose This Product

• Lipikar is a moisturiser that contains nicotinamide (niacinamide/vitamin B3) at a concentration of 4%.
• Nicotinamde is an anti-inflammatory ingredient. One small study showed that nicotinamide cream reduced itch and overall eczema severity compared to standard moisturisers.
• Nicotinamide increases ceramides and other lipids (oils) found naturally in the skin. Two small studies showed that nicotinamide improves hydration in the skin compared to standard moisturisers. 
• Lipikar also contains Ophiopogon japonicus root extract (microresyl). This is a plant used in traditional Chinese medicine. One small study showed a cream containing this extract reduced inflammation in eczema. 
• Lipikar contains Aqua posae filiformis (AP). This is a good bacteria extract. One small study showed this can help normalise the skin's microbiome (bacteria that lives on the skin) and reduce inflammation in eczema.  
• Lipikar also contains tocopherol (vitamin E), an antioxidant. 
• 1 small study showed that regular use of lipikar reduced the amount of steroid creams needed in mild eczema. 
• Lipikar is a cream, which means it's a thick moisturiser, but not as greasy as an ointment. It has a higher water content than ointments, so it is lighter to apply and absorbs more readily into the skin. 
• Lipikar contains no fragrances or colourings, so it is less likely to cause an allergic reaction (contact allergy) to the skin. 
• Suitable for adults and children including babies.

Cautions

• Use of moisturisers in the bath can or shower be a slip hazard
• Moisturisers are flammable. Over long periods moisturisers can build-up on fabric (clothing, bedding etc), making these materials flammable. Washing clothing and bedding may reduce this build-up but not totally remove it.  
• Lipikar does contain some preservatives so there is a small risk of allergic reaction. For people with allergy prone skin, ointments such as Epaderm ointment are better. Do not use if you are allergic to any of the ingredients listed.
